Corporate dissolutions up over 38pct in Romania two months into 2026

  The number of dissolved companies in Romania increased by 38.31% in the first two months of 2026, to 11,066, from 8,001 in the similar period of 2025, according to data centralised by the National Companies Registre (ONRC).Most dissolutions were recorded in Bucharest, 2,117 companies (up 45.1% from January-February 2025) and in the counties of Cluj (621 companies, plus 40.50%), Ilfov (523, plus 56.12%), Constanta (498, plus 61.69%), Timi? (494, plus 44.87%) and Iasi (426, plus 39.22%).On the other hand, the fewest dissolutions were recorded in the counties of Mehedinti, namely 39 (down 35% from the first two months of 2025), Ialomita (54, plus 45.95%), Calarasi (64, plus 23.08%), Covasna (65, plus 47.73%), Giurgiu (82, plus 17.14%) and Teleorman (89, plus 30.88%).The most significant increases in the number of dissolutions were recorded in the counties of Gorj (plus 78.76%), Galati (plus 73.15%), Mures (plus 72.88%) and Dolj (plus 71.3%).Decreases in the number of dissolutions were recorded only in the counties of Mehedinti (minus 35%), Buzau (minus 4.11%) and Vrancea (minus 2.11%).The business area with the most corporate dissolutions in the first two months of 2026, is wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, with 2,074 dissolutions nationwide. Year-on-year, dissolutions in this area increased by 5.23%.Professional, scientific and technical activities and constructions are other business areas with numerous corporate dissolutions: 846 (plus 17.66%) and 775 (plus 1.44%).In February 2026, according to ONRC data, 5,663 company dissolutions were recorded, most of them in Bucharest City (1,119) and the counties of Cluj (348), Ilfov (288), Iasi (246) and Timis (246).
