CSAT meeting sanctions Romania's contribution to Ukraine ceasefire monitoring through its infrastructure, other capabilities

Romania will contribute to Ukraine ceasefire monitoring actions through its infrastructure and other capabilities, the Presidential Administration informs in a release issued after the meeting of the Supreme Council for National Defense (CSAT) chaired by acting President Ilie Bolojan."The meeting looked at the developments of the illegal and unprovoked war unleashed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine three years ago, with an emphasis on the situation on the ground, as well as on the stage and prospects of negotiations on the resolution of this war of aggression," the release states.Romania welcomes the results of the recent ceasefire negotiations in Riyadh and the U.S. efforts in this direction, as a first step towards securing a peace agreement, the cited source specifies."The fundamental goal remains a just and lasting peace, after which Ukraine, supported by all its allies to be able to start its reconstruction and the restoration of the economy. As a neighboring country that shares the longest land and maritime border with Ukraine, Romania is directly interested in the end of the war. We want Ukraine to enjoy peace and be able to follow its European path in accordance with the decisions adopted by the European Union. Our support for Ukraine will continue. Romania maintains its consistent stance according to which the ceasefire must be followed by a peace agreement that provides solid security guarantees and deters any future aggression by Russia. Transatlantic cooperation is vital in this process. Peace negotiations cannot take place without Ukraine and Europe," the statement reads.Acting President Bolojan presented the attendants the conclusions of the Paris summit on Ukraine he participated in on Thursday."All the participating leaders reaffirmed the continuation of financial and military support for Ukraine and the unwavering support for a negotiated solution, which would lead to a robust peace, in Ukraine and Europe's interest," the cited source said.The importance of further strengthening NATO's eastern flank was also highlighted at the meeting, with Romania's concrete actions being aimed at bolstering the European contribution to ensuring the security of Ukraine, the entire region and Europe."As a Black Sea country, Romania is following with the utmost attention all discussions related to the ceasefire, the monitoring thereof and ensuring the safety of navigation in the area. Romania will contribute to the monitoring actions through its infrastructure and other capabilities. Simultaneously with the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, we will closely coordinate with allies in the region and NATO on the aspects related to the Black Sea security and safety," the statement said.The Council members also discussed the continued support for ensuring the European future of the Republic of Moldova, given that these developments also have an impact on this country.
