Cugir Arms Factory Upgraded with $82M to Boost NATO Ammo Output

December 23, 2024

The authorities plan to modernize the arms factory in Cugir, Alba County, following investments of 410 million lei. The modernization aims to increase production capacity, but also diversify the manufacturing range of NATO ammunition of 12.7×99 mm caliber, according to a draft Government Decision, put into public debate at the Ministry of Economy. “Currently, a significant deficiency is noted in the sphere of ammunition production at the Cugir Mechanical Plant: most of the equipment used for ammunition production has reached an advanced stage of its operating life. This situation not only implies a technological gap in relation to contemporary international standards, but also possible risks associated with the integrity of the production process and the quality of finished products,” states the Explanatory Note of the draft normative act.
