Defence cooperation agreement with the UK to be referred to Parliament for debate and ratification

The government approved on Thursday sending the Agreement with the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on defence cooperation to Parliament, for debate and ratification.The agreement signed in London on November 13 last year by National Defence Minister Angel Tilvar and British Secretary of Defence John Healey sets the general legal framework in place for strengthening defence cooperation between the two signatory parties, based on the principles of equality, reciprocity and mutual interest, a release informs."This instrument will facilitate the deepening of strategic dialogue and the development of joint projects that respond to operational requirements imposed by the evolutions in the security environment, such as logistics, capability development, resource planning, communications, countering hybrid threats, drills, international operations under UN mandate, arms control, military training and education," the release states.The United Kingdom is a constant contributor to air policing missions and allied command and control structures on Romania's territory, the National Defence Ministry also notes.
