September 24, 2025

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Liviu-Ionut Mosteanu paid an official visit to Kyiv on Monday, where he met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal.According to a release from the Ministry of National Defence, discussions with the Ukrainian prime minister focused on the development of economic cooperation in the military sector and on Romania's participation in Ukraine's reconstruction. The Romanian official reaffirmed Romania's firm commitment to continue providing multidimensional support to Ukraine and highlighted the country's consistent involvement in international efforts to support Ukraine, both bilaterally and within NATO and the European Union. He stressed that Romania is closely monitoring developments regarding security guarantees for Ukraine and will actively participate in all allied and EU decisions on this matter. The Romanian Defence Minister reaffirmed Romania's readiness to deepen defence cooperation, particularly by advancing the defence industry and making full use of available mechanisms, with the aim of providing long-term support for the partnership with Ukraine. After the meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Denys Shmyhal, Mosteanu siad that the two countries will collaborate in the development of military products, and Romanian companies will get involved in the reconstruction of Ukraine."I met today Ukrainian Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal. We talked about Ukraine's security, about the peace we all want, about the European future of our region, but also about what we can build together, beyond the war. Ukraine's fight is a fight for independence and sovereignty and, at the same time, a fight for our common values. We will continue to stand with them in this fight, we will collaborate in the development of Romanian-Ukrainian military products under the European SAFE Program, we will get Romanian companies involved in the reconstruction of Ukraine and we will work to strengthen security at the Black Sea," Mosteanu wrote in a social media post.He added that Romania is part of the coalition "of those who defend democratic values.""Putin believed that, through terror and bombs, he could stop Ukraine's European path and threaten Europe's security. He was wrong. Ukraine is stronger, and Romania is part of the coalition of those who defend democratic values and will be part of the reconstruction of a European and safe Ukraine," added the minister. In turn, Ukraine’s Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal, has also announced that Romania will soon hand over another – the 23rd – military aid package to Ukraine. The Ukrainian defence minister thanked Romania for its unwavering support across key areas. "The country has already provided Ukraine with 22 military aid packages, and our troops will receive the 23rd in the near future," Shmyhal said on Facebook quoted by https://www.eurointegration.com.ua/. Romania continues training Ukrainian F-16 pilots and is making other substantial contributions to building our air-defence shield. Shmyhal reported that at the meeting it was agreed to strengthen coordination between the air-defence forces. "We focused on developing industrial co-operation. The priority is production: interceptor drones, FPV drones and long-range drones," Shmyhal added. The two ministers also discussed using the SAFE (Security Action for Europe) mechanism to launch joint projects on technology transfer and to start Ukrainian production in Romania, as well as Romania’s participation in the PURL (Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List) initiative, which supplies Ukrainian troops with US-made weapons.  (Photo:https://armed.mapn.ro/)
