The Ministry of National Defence announced on Thursday that a drone crashed approximately 4 kilometres north-east of Grindu, Tulcea County, in an unpopulated area.According to a press release from the Ministry of National Defence, the radar surveillance system detected a group of aerial targets near the border with Ukraine at 2:23 am on the night of Wednesday to Thursday, and two F-18 aircraft belonging to the Spanish Air and Space Force were scrambled to monitor the situation.An IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter belonging to the Romanian Air Force also took off on an aerial reconnaissance mission.The National Military Command Centre notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations to implement measures to alert the population in the area concerned, and a RO-ALERT message was sent at 3:20 am."At 3:21 am, a drone entered national airspace approximately 13 kilometres east of the city of Galati. At 3:24 am, the crew of the IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter reported that the target had crashed approximately 4 kilometres north-east of Grindu, Tulcea County, in an unpopulated area. The impact with the ground was followed by a fire which went out on its own. No casualties or material damage were reported," the Ministry of National Defence said.A team of military personnel is heading to the crash site to secure the area, according to the ministry.The Ministry of National Defence said the air alert ended at 3:52 am.
