February 27, 2025

The Ministry of National Defence (MApN) reports that two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force, part of the Air Police Combat Service, monitored the Romanian airspace at the border with Ukraine for two hours, on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, in the context of new drone attacks by Russian forces on Ukrainian infrastructure, near Tulcea. The monitoring and surveillance systems of the Ministry of National Defence signaled the flight of drones in the Ukrainian airspace, on a route that was approaching the border with Romania. The MApN indicates that at around 3.20 am, two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force, part of the Air Police Combat Service, took off from the 86th Air Base in Borcea to monitor the air situation. The aircraft returned to base after approximately two hours. At the same time, the National Military Command Centre (core) notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations to take alerting measures for the population in the Chilia Veche area. As a result, a RO-ALERT message was transmitted at 3.05 am, and at 4.08 am the termination of the alerting measures in the targeted area was declared.Radar data did not indicate any intrusions of monitored air targets into the national airspace. The MApN forces will carry out today searches in areas where risks may arise as a result of these situations and will continue airspace monitoring missions. Also, allied structures are informed in real time about the situations generated by the attacks. The Ministry of National Defence sends a firm message of condemnation of these attacks carried out by the Russian Federation against Ukrainian civilian objectives and infrastructure elements, which are unjustified and in serious contradiction with the norms of international law.
