DefMin Tilvar meets EP president Roberta Metsola on the sidelines of his official visit to Brussels

 The minister of national defence, Angel Tilvar, had a bilateral meeting with the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, on the sidelines of his official visit to Brussels on Monday.According to a press release of the Ministry of Defence sent on Tuesday, during the discussions, the Romanian official highlighted the essential role of the European Parliament in supporting a common strategic vision in the field of defence and security of the European Union, underscoring the importance of the coordinated action of the Committee on Foreign Affairs.He also appreciated the solid commitment of the Parliament to strengthening the common foreign and security policy, as well as the constant support given to Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and the states in the Western Balkans.The minister of national defence also emphasised the essential contribution of the European Parliament in ensuring the legislative and budgetary framework necessary for financing the European defence industry, through mechanisms such as the European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP) and the SAFE (Security Action for Europe) initiative.In this context, Minister Tilvar presented Romania's efforts within the Common Security and Defence Policy, through active participation in all EU missions and operations, highlighting its command within the EUFOR Althea mission, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the EUTM RCA mission, in the Central African Republic."A major topic addressed was the strategic importance of the Black Sea region for Euro-Atlantic security and the European Union, in the context of multiple threats, including hybrid threats, propaganda and disinformation," the same source shows.
