Deloitte Romania assisted Affidea medical group in taking over Medeuropa radiotherapy network

July 10, 2024

Deloitte Romania assisted Affidea medical group, one of the leaders in the medical services market, in taking over the Medeuropa network, which provides radiotherapy and chemotherapy services, as well as oncology consultations. The transaction was signed in February 2024 and was completed recently, following regulatory and competition approvals. Through this takeover, Affidea enters the niche of radiotherapy services in Romania, a segment that it already covers in other European countries.   ”By completing the acquisition of MedEuropa and by opening the new state-of-the-art oncology center in Iasi, we are strengthening our commitment to fighting cancer in the communities in which we are present. This new milestone is an important step towards bridging the gaps in cancer care through advanced diagnostics services, laboratory tests, radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatments, as well as through a wide range of complementary consultations within a single network. We remain committed to our goal of improving survival rates and ensuring that each patient receives personalized and accessible care throughout the entire experience – from early diagnosis to recovery,” said Razvan Predica, CEO, Affidea Romania and Hungary.   The Affidea network in Romania will thus expand with the four medical centers that MedEuropa currently owns in Bucharest, Constanta, Brasov and Oradea, as well as with a fifth, which is to be opened in Iasi.   A multidisciplinary team of financial and tax advisors from Deloitte Romania assisted Affidea with financial and tax due diligence, transaction support services, as well as with market size analysis for a selection of medical services.   The team from the financial advisory practice that worked on the project was made up of Radu Dumitrescu, Partner-in-Charge, Vlad Balan, Director, Ioana Boca, Director, Marina Nicola, Deputy Director, Cristina Ifrim, Manager, Andreea Voinea, Senior Associate, as well as Marc Nedera, Vlad Muresan, Cristiana Tepes, Gabriela Rusu and Victor Tutuianu, Associates. The tax experts who worked on the transaction were Dan Badin, Partner, Laura Bobar, Senior Manager, Alexandra Gheorghe, Senior Associate, and Alexandra Samson, Associate.   ”The role of the Deloitte team in this project consisted of analyzing from a financial and tax point of view the companies to be acquired, identifying potential risks and opportunities, as well as assessing the tax implications of the transaction. We thank the Affidea team and Razvan Predica for the excellent collaboration, which allowed us to fulfill the role we assumed in this project and to contribute to the success of the transaction and, thus, to the achievement of a strategic objective for Affidea. For us, the experience was a source of both motivation and professional development,” said Radu Dumitrescu, Financial Advisory Partner-in-Charge, Deloitte Romania.   Affidea Romania, one of the largest players in the market, offers advanced diagnostic imaging medical services, laboratory tests and medical consultations, through 53 medical centers located in 27 cities. The network has over 1,500 employees and over 2 million patients annually. At European level, Affidea is the largest provider of integrated healthcare services and is present in 15 countries.   The MedEuropa network, established in 2018 by Telemos Capital in partnership with a local team of entrepreneurs, has 300 employees.   Deloitte provides industry-leading audit and assurance, tax and legal, consulting, financial advisory, and risk advisory services to nearly 90% of the Fortune Global 500® and thousands of private companies.   The firm’s professionals deliver measurable and lasting results that help reinforce public trust in capital markets, enable clients to transform and thrive, and lead the way toward a stronger economy, a more equitable society and a sustainable world.   Building on its 175-plus year history, Deloitte spans more than 150 countries and territories.
