DICE: Over 155 million lei in economic crime cases

The value of the damages in economic crime cases sent to court in the first six months of this year is over 155 million lei, said Aurel Dobre, director of the Economic Crime Investigation Directorate (DICE) of the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police.   The head of the DICE presented an overview of the actions carried out by the Romanian Police during the first six months of the year to combat economic-financial crimes and other violations of the law that affect the economic climate in Romania and the fundamental rights of citizens.   ‘The investigating structures for economic crimes organised 248 ample actions, against 196 in the similar period of last year, to destructure the criminal groups and to prove their illegal activitiy, in complex criminal files. In the files, there were 2,448 house searches, against 2,033 last year and 420 arrest warrents were executed. The police were notified about 24,221 offenses, 3,173 persons suspected of economic-financial crimes were investigated and preventive measures were taken against 346 of them; pre-trial arrest -60, house arrest -29, judicial control – 189 and detention – 68”, Aurel Dobre said.At the same time, he stated that 795 criminal cases involving 1,402 people were solved with a proposal to indict 795 people, while 170 other criminal cases were referred to the competent prosecutor’s offices.‘The prosecution units have issued 562 indictments and plea agreements, the value of the damage insured when issuing the indictment/plea agreement was 155,549,950 lei.For other illegalities, police officers imposed 3,273 fines, totaling 15,500,000 lei, said the DICE director, who added that the total value of the precautionary measures applied and the damages recovered by police officers amounted to 584,131,840 lei, compared to 470,145,365 lei in the same period last year.
