DNSC: 'Quick investment' fraud using the image of Romania's President currently circulating on the internet

September 18, 2025

A ’quick investment’ fraud where the image of Romania’s president is used is currently circulating on the internet, warns the National Directorate for Cyber Security (DNSC).''A scam is circulating on the internet that uses the image of President Nicusor Dan promoting a so-called 'investment opportunity' with the promise of miraculous gains. Reminder: such deepfake videos are a method of online fraud designed to manipulate emotions and persuade potential victims to provide personal data or transfer money to the attackers,'' the institution said in a post published on its Facebook page on Wednesday.   The DNSC specialists made a list with security advice, destined to the internet users: be vigilant when watching videos in which public figures promote ‘safe investments’ or quick wins; check the source and access only the official websites of the institutions; avoid clicking on links received in suspicious advertisements; do not give personal or financial data on unknown websites. Moreover, the experts recommend immediate report on the suspicious pages to the social media platform where they were posted as well to DNSC, the unique number 1911 or fill the form pnrisc.dnsc.ro.
