Dragos Anastasiu: Fiscal measures will be found in our pockets

October 26, 2023

Fiscal measures like taxes on business figures will be found in prices, having an effect similar to VAT increase, says Dragos Anastasiu, president of Rethink Romania, at the 11th edition of the European business forum in Romania – Eurosfat, and event organized by Europuls- the European Expert Center.   Anastasiu said that fiscal measures were adopted starting from the idea that if we do not take action, we will no longer receive 75 billion euros, but he thinks that Romania will get European money if the country is able to absorb European money.   On the other hand, he declared that Romania must have structural reforms because it has a faulty general fiscal frame. Anastasiu considers this fiscal package addresses causes only partially and is trying to fill some holes, but these changes cannot be made overnight because it would leave in offside the whole business environment. He also spoke about the lack of equity, mentioning that it comes from three areas: the comparison between the budget sector and business, the latter suffering during the pandemic ; the inequity between various areas of the private environment, fiscal evasion – the biggest inequity towards companies which function correctly.   Anastasiu gave as example tourism, a sector in which he works. He said he had an investment in the Danube Delta, in Sfantu Gheorghe and pointed out that his company was controlled by the authorities, while others were not because they did not have a functioning license.
