Four fighter jets took off from the Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base after radars detected on Wednesday night several targets in the Ukrainian airspace, close to the border with Romania, being signalled a possible impact area on the national soil about 10 km east of the administrative limit of the city of Galati.According to the Romanian Defence Ministry (MApN), these are Russian drones that executed a new attack on civilian facilities and infrastructure located on the soil of Ukraine, near the border with Romania. Thus, the National Military Command Centre notified the General Emergency Management Inspectorate around 23:00hrs, regarding the establishment of measures to alert the population in the border area of Tulcea and Galati counties. For the surveillance and monitoring of the airspace in the area, two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force and, subsequently, two Eurofighter aircraft of the Spanish Air Force, in the Air Police Combat Service, took off from the 86th Borcea Air Base, and the 57th Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base.MApN reports that the radars identified, around 00:30hrs, an air target that briefly crossed the national airspace, near the town of Reni, about 1 km inland, later heading towards the Ukrainian airspace. At the same time, a possible impact area was reported on the national soil, near the Romanian-Ukrainian border, about 10 kilometres east of the administrative limit of the city of Galati, without material damage being reported. At 01:10hrs, the air alert in the two counties was rescinded, with the combat aircraft later returning to the deployment air bases. In the morning, MApN forces started investigations in the reported location, as well as in other areas in the vicinity of the Ukrainian targets attacked by Russian forces."The Ministry of National Defence reiterates its firm message of condemnation of these attacks carried out by the Russian Federation against Ukrainian civilian facilities and infrastructure, as they are unjustified and running contrary to the rules of international law," the MApN press release also reads.
