Embassy of France dismisses false information on two separate ongoing projects France-Romania in anti-aircraft defence

July 24, 2025

The French Embassy in Bucharest informs that Romania is currently collaborating with France on various armament projects, with the aim of endowing the Romanian Armed Forces with modern and efficient equipment. The diplomatic mission said in a press release sent on Wednesday that these clarifications come in the context of the recent appearance in the public space of false or out of context information regarding Romania's purchase of Mistral 3 missiles. The French Embassy informs that there are two distinct projects in the field of air defence. One is aimed at very short-range portable anti-aircraft missiles for the Romanian infantry."The French state is proposing the latest generation Mistral 3 (MBDA) missiles as part of a joint procurement for new countries, including France and Romania. Thus, all countries benefit from the same purchase conditions (favorable price, quality and performance), as does France. The price proposed for Romania is much lower than the EUR 700 million budget approved by the Bucharest Parliament for this equipment," the cited source shows. The second project targets short and very short range anti-aircraft systems installed on vehicles."A French company responded to a tender launched by the Romanian government. An offer was submitted by this company, but was eliminated by the Romanian authorities," the diplomatic mission further informs.
