Employer's federation head: Capping prices creates market distortions

September 26, 2024

Measures to cap energy, food and third-party liability insurance policy - RCA prices do not solve the fundamental problems, but are a short-term "band-aid" that creates distortions on the respective markets, according to Radu Burnete, director of the Concordia Employers' Confederation. In his opinion, we must return to competitive markets, where prices are given by supply and demand.According to a press release the employers' association sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday, Concordia representatives participated in consultations on Monday with Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu and members of the Government on several issues of major interest, such as fiscal consolidation in the short and long term. The meeting also discussed important measures for the business environment. The prime minister outlined the government's plans to bring the public deficit under control. Concordia representatives expressed concern about the dynamics of this plan and the risk of generating new taxes.According to the quoted source, the PM has given firm assurances, as he has done publicly lately, that there will be no tax increases and that the deficit will be kept under control by cutting spending.Concordia is a strong supporter of the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF), as an essential tool to reduce tax evasion and bureaucracy, the press release said.Other topics on the agenda of the Concordia delegation's meeting with members of the Government were: unannounced road closures, implementation of the minimum wage directive, Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) authorisations, tax credit for Research and Development, consumer protection, updating of tourism legislation and the Guarantee-Return System (SGR).
