The employment rate of the working-age population (15-64 years old) stood at 63.3% in the second quarter of the current year, and the number of active people was almost 8.23 million, of which about 490,000 were classified as unemployed, according to data published on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).According to the cited source, during the analyzed period, the employment rate of the population included in the 15-64 age group increased by 0.6 percentage points, compared to the first quarter.At the same time, the employment rate was higher for men (71.6%, compared to 54.8% for women) and for people from urban areas (69.3% compared to 57.1% in rural areas).Overall, between April and June, Romania's active population was 8.222 million people, of which 7.733 million people were employed and 489,800 people were unemployed.At the same time, in the same period, the employment rate of young people (15-24 years old) was 18.7%.INS data reveal that, in the reference interval, the unemployment rate was 6%, down 0.2 percentage points. By gender, the gap between the two unemployment rates was 0.1 percentage points (6% for men, compared to 5.9% for women), and by residential area, 6.4 percentage points (9.4% in rural areas, compared to 3% in urban areas).Also, by age group, the unemployment rate reached the highest level (22.9%) among young people in the "15-24 years old" category.
