Employment rate of working age population is 62.1% in Q4 2021

- In the fourth quarter of 2021, the employment rate for the population aged 20-64 years was 67.3%. - In the fourth quarter of 2021, the economically active population of Romania was 8238 thousand persons, out of which 7752thousand were employed persons and 486thousand unemployed persons.    The employment rate of the working age population (15-64 years) was, in the fourth quarter of last year, 62.1%, decreasing compared to the third quarter of 2021 by 0.2 percentage points, according to data published on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).The employment rate was higher for men (71.1% compared to 52.9% for women) and for people in urban areas (67.8% compared to 55.2% in rural areas). The employment rate of young people (15-24 years old) was 20.8%.On the other hand, the unemployment rate in the fourth quarter of 2021 was 5.9%, up 0.6 percentage points from the third quarter of 2021.By gender, the gap between the two unemployment rates was 1.4 percentage points (6.5% for men compared to 5.1% for women), and for residential areas, 6.2 percentage points (9.5 percentage points, compared to 3.3% in urban areas).By age groups, the unemployment rate reached the highest level (23.4%) among young people (15-24 years).According to the INS, apart from the 7,752,000 people employed, another 719,000 people worked in their own farm to produce agricultural goods intended exclusively or mostly for self-consumption, these being in one of the following situations: either the majority of the production obtained in the household was consumed in one's own household and only a small part of the agricultural production obtained was destined for sale, or the agricultural production obtained is destined exclusively for one's own consumption and represents a substantial part of the total consumption of the household.The rate of the productive population, calculated for the 15-64 age group, was 65.9% in the fourth quarter of 2021, and that for the 20-64 age group, 71.2%.
