Energy watchdog issues authorization for one of the largest wind farms in Romania

June 12, 2025

The National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) issued, on Thursday, the establishment authorization for one of the largest wind farms in Romania, Ialomita Nord, with a total capacity of over 246 MW, announced the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja. It is a project owned by the Portuguese company Greenvolt, through Tandarei Solar, and will benefit from the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme, which the Ministry of Energy launched last year."The project is among the first to qualify for the CfD scheme, which means that it has secured financing and will be carried out, with a 15-year guarantee of the selling price of the electricity produced. This means jobs in construction and operation, local taxes, income in the economy and, last but not least, clean and cheap energy produced here, in Romania," the minister of Energy wrote on Facebook. He believes that the project can be a magnet for economic development, in a county where there is a great need.Sebastian Burduja recalled that Romania currently has about 3,100 MW installed in wind power."The CfD scheme is, without exaggeration, one of the most important public energy policies of the last 30 years and it will continue in the coming years. And, despite the 'choir of lamenters', who harshly criticized us for this initiative, we have demonstrated that we can have competitive tenders. And we have also fulfilled an essential milestone in the PNRR. This should be the real meaning of the energy transition: to produce more clean energy here, to produce it cheaply, to be sold at affordable prices for Romanians and companies and to transform it into a source of economic development for Romania", the minister of Energy said.
