Entry/Exit System (EES) becomes operational at six more border crossing points

November 10, 2025

The Entry/Exit System (EES)  became operational as of Monday at the border crossing points Jimbolia and Lunga in Timis, Racovas in Botosani, Vicovu de Sus in Suceava, Halmeu in Satu Mare and Suceava Airport.According to the General Inspectorate of the Border Police, following the system's launch at Midia in Constanta, Stanca in Botosani, Naidas in Caras-Severin, Sighet in Maramures and Sibiu Airport, it is now being extended to the new locations mentioned. The EES will collect data from the travel documents of non-EU citizens without capturing biometric data such as facial images and four fingerprints at these points. The system applies only to non-EU citizens making short stays in the European Union of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. On first entry, the traveller's data will be collected and for subsequent entries verification will be automatic, reducing waiting times at the border. Fingerprinting will be applied to all non-EU citizens except children under 12, people for whom fingerprinting is impossible, and holders of residence permits or long-stay visas issued by an EU member state. The implementation of EES aims to replace manual stamping of documents without changing existing travel rights. During the transition period of approximately six months, passports will continue to be stamped manually.
