EU Affairs Minister Ciamba attends 9th Bosphorus Summit, reaffirms Romania’s commitment to promoting pro-European vision

Minister Delegate for European Affairs George Ciamba attended on Tuesday the 9th Bosphorus Summit in Istanbul, reiterating on the occasion Romania’s firm commitment to promoting a profoundly pro-European vision and playing a constructive role in the reflection on the future of the European Union. According to a release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ciamba addressed the panel “The EU in Search of Visions”, along with Turkey’s Deputy Foreign Minister in charge of European Affairs, Faruk Kaymakci. In his speech, Romania’s Minister Delegate for European Affairs emphasized the importance of focusing EU action, beyond the various visions of its future, on pragmatic and inclusive decisions, on realistic and ambitious solutions reflecting the interests of all member states. “Referring to the global role of the European Union, the Romanian top official highlighted the relevance of the values underlying the Union’s external action and the importance of continuing to actively promote internationally the principles and rules of multilateral cooperation. The Minister Delegate for European Affairs also referred to the importance of European action in the neighborhood, for the promotion of peace, stability and prosperity throughout the European continent, pointing out that cooperation with the partners is essential for the management of common challenges. In this context, he cited cooperation with Turkey, a candidate country and key partner of the European Union in multiple areas, encouraging the continuation of the dialogue to strengthen this partnership,” the release states. George Ciamba presented cohesion as a fundamental theme of Romania’s forthcoming Presidency of the EU Council and reaffirmed Romania’s commitment to contribute to the relaunch of the European project. He also pointed out that both the May 2019 extraordinary summit in Sibiu, where EU’s future strategic agenda will be discussed, and next year’s EP election campaign should take place in a consensual atmosphere and convey messages of unity and cohesion.
