European Parliament President Antonio Tajani to give speech before Romanian Parliament on November 21

October 14, 2018

European Parliament President Antonio Tajani will visit Bucharest on November 21 and will give a speech during the plenary meeting of the Romanian Parliament, his visit being occasioned by Romania taking over the rotational Presidency of the Council of the EU. On 21 November 2018, the Conference of European Parliament Presidents will visit Bucharest, the delegation being led by European Parliament President Antonio Tajani and consisting of the presidents of the European Parliament’s political groups, the Secretary General of the EP, representatives of the Cabinet of the EP President, aides, interpreters and media representatives, according to internal parliamentary memoranda consulted by MEDIAFAX. On this occasion, on November 21, the House and Senate will hold a joint plenary meeting in which EP President Antonio Tajani will give a speech. The Presidents of the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR), High Court of Cassation and Justice, and Court of Accounts, the Ombudsman, Romanian MEPs and the head of the EP’s liaison office in Romania, as well as the heads of the diplomatic missions based in Bucharest, will be invited at the plenary meeting. President Klaus Iohannis is not on the proposed list of guests, according to the internal memoranda. Antonio Tajani could meet House Speaker Liviu Dragnea and Senate Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu. An internal parliamentary memorandum points out that the European delegation will consist of approximately 50 persons, the visit being one of “the actions that have become traditional before an EU member state takes over the rotational Presidency of the Council of the EU,” and that the EP Presidents have “an explicit request,” namely to have “a dialogue with the academic environment/civil society.”
