Eurostat: Romania among EU countries with the biggest falls in industrial producer prices in August

October 9, 2025

The prices of products which come out of the factories gates registered, in August 2025, as compared to July 2025 a drop of 0.4% in the EU and Romania is among the EU member states with the highest reductions of prices for industrial production from one month to another, show the data published on Friday by Eurostat.According to these data, industrial producer prices fell month-on-month in most EU countries, but the biggest falls were in Denmark (down 1.3%), Romania and the Netherlands (both down 1%). Eurostat says that the development of industrial producer prices in the EU was influenced in particular by a 1.4% decline in energy prices. Annually, industrial producer prices registered a drop of 0.6% in the euro zone and 0.4% in the EU. In this case, Romania is among the member states with the highest increases of industrial producer prices with an advance of 3.1% annually. Higher increases were registered only in Bulgaria (9.1%) and Sweden (4.1%).The change in prices at the factory gates is usually blamed on final consumers and can therefore be an indicator of the inflation trend that the European Central Bank is targeting with its monetary policy.   Earlier, the National Institute of Statistics (NSI) released its own data, according to which industrial output prices (domestic and foreign markets) increased by 3.2% in August this year compared to the same period in 2024.   In contrast, compared to July 2025, industrial producer prices fell by 0,6% in August.   According to the official statistics, year-on-year, according to the industrial output price index, there were increases as follows: the consumer goods industry - by 6.14%, the durable goods industry - by 4.38%, the intermediate goods industry - by 4.32%, the capital goods industry - by 2.44% and the energy industry (+1.27%).   Also, on the total market (domestic and foreign), the NSI data reveal that in August this year, compared to August 2024, output prices in the extractive industry increased by 3.21%, those in the manufacturing industry increased by 3.32%, while the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning recorded a jump of 2.89%, and in water distribution - sanitation, waste management, decontamination activities, there was an increase of 10.82%.
