Eurostat: Romania, biggest annual retail sale increase in June

The volumeof retail trade grew by 0.1% in EU and dropped by 0.3% in the euro zone in June, compared to the same period of 2023, while Romania recorded the most significant advance, according to data releases by Eurostat on Tuesday. Among EU states which have available data, the highest increase of retail trade volume in June, compared to the same period of 2023 was recorded in Romania (10.2%), Luxembourg (7.9%) and Coratia (5.4%), while the most significant drops were in Belgium (minus 7.3%), Estonia (minus 4.1%) and Austria (minus 3.9%). In EU, sales of food, drinks and tobacco dropped by 0.5%, while sales of non-food products went up by 0.7% and those of car fuel by 0.5%.   The volume of retail trade dropped by 0.3% in the euro zone and by 0.1% in EU in June, compared to the previous month when it recorded a 0.1% advance both in EU and the euro zone.   Among EU member states for which data are available, the biggest increase of the volume of retail trade in June, compared to the previous mont, was recorded in Romania (1.8%), Bulgaria (1.4%) and Denmark (1%), the most significant drops being in Croatia (minus 2.7%), Austria (minus 2.3%), Latvia and Lithuania (both minus 1.7%).   In EU, sales of food, drinks and tobacco dropped by 1%, those of non-food products remained stable, while sales of car fuels went up by 0.6%.   According to data of the National Statistic Institute, in Romania the volume of the retail trade business (except for car and motorcycle trade), gross series, went up by 0.9% in June 2024, compared t the previous month, due to the advance recorded for retail trade of car fuels in specialized shops (+5.7%) and for sales of nn-food products (+0.3%). Sales of food, drinks and tobacco dropped by 0.8%.   Adjusted series went up by 1.9%, due to the increase recorded for retail sale of fuels for vehicles in specialized stores (+4.4%), sales of non-food products (+1.9%) and sale of food, drinks and tobacco (+0.1%).   The volume of the retail trade figure (except for trade of cars and motorcycles), in June 2024 compared to June 2023, recorded an appreciation of 9.4%, due to the increase of nn-food products (+11.9%), retail trade of fuels for vehicles in specialized stores (+9.7%) and of food, drinks and tobacco (+6.2%).   The adjusted series acording to the number of working days and season, there was a 10% increase, due to the rise recorded for non-food products (+13.3%), retail trade of fuels for vehicles in specialized stores (+10.2%) and sales of food, drinks and tobacco (+5.7%).
