Eurostat: Romania sees biggest increase in construction works in the EU in September

The construction works dropped by 0.1% in the EU and the euro zone in September, as compared to the previous month when there was an advance of 0.2% while Romania had the most significant advance among the member states, show the data published on Wednesday by the European Office for Statistics (Eurostat).In the euro zone, the construction works registered a similar decline of 0.1% in September, against 0% in August.Among the EU Member States for which data are available, the most significant increase in construction in September compared with the previous month was in Romania (2.8%), Italy (2.2%), Spain and Slovenia (both up 1.7%), while the biggest falls were in the Czech Republic (down 5.5%), Slovakia (down 4%) and the Netherlands (down 3.2%). Eurostat data show that in September, compared with the same period in 2023, construction work fell by 2% in the European Union and by 1.6% in the euro area. The largest annual increases in construction works in March were in Bulgaria (5.2%), Italy (3.9%) and Portugal (3.3%), the most significant declines are in Slovakia (minus 19.1%), Slovenia (minus 17.6%) and Poland (minus 9%). Romania reported an annual advance of 2.4% in September, after a 4.2% drop the previous month. According to the data of the National Institute for Statistics (INS) in Romania the volume of constructions works increased, as a gross series, with 6.1% September, against the previous month, the growth shown in the maintenance and current repairs works (+12.8%) and new construction works (+7%). In exchange, the works for capital repairs dropped by 9.8%.By construction objects, engineering construction works and residential buildings increased by 12.1% and 4.4% respectively. In contrast, non-residential buildings fell by 6.3%.   The volume of construction works increased, in working-day and seasonally adjusted terms, by 2.8%, with an increase of 2.8%, recorded for new construction works (+3.3%) and for maintenance and repair works (+2.6%). Capital repair works decreased by 13.2%. By construction objects, the volume of construction work increased for engineering constructions (+6.4%), while non-residential buildings and residential buildings decreased by 14.1% and 0.7% respectively. In September 2024 as compared to the same month of last year, the volume of construction works, as gross series, increased, as a total by 2.4%. As structure elements, increase was registered for the works of capital repairs (+10.8%) and new construction works (+6.2%) while current maintenance and repair works decreased by 10.6%,   By construction objects, engineering construction works increased by 20.3%. Residential buildings and non-residential buildings decreased by 22.5% and 14.6% respectively.   On a working-day and seasonally adjusted basis, the volume of construction works increased by 3% in total. By structural elements, increases were recorded in capital repair works (+12.5%) and in new construction works (+6.8%).   Current repair works decreased by 10.5%. By construction objects, the volume of construction works increased by 15.2% for engineering construction works. Residential buildings and non-residential buildings decreased by 21.8% and 13.1% respectively.
