The first edition of the International Filmikon Festival will take place in Bucharest, between January 18 and 25, at Cinema Elvire Popesco, Cinema Union and at St. Joseph's Cathedral, a press release sent on Thursday by the Signis Romania Association informs.A picking of films awarded over the years by ecumenical and inter-religious juries, in more than 30 film festivals in the world, but also a dialogue about Christian and human values starting from at these productions, are in the menu.Since 1974, the Ecumenical Jury Award is an independent award given to feature films from the competitions of international film festivals in the world, such as Cannes or Berlin, the source reads.All films will be followed by discussions to which theologians (representatives of several Christian denominations in Romania: Catholic, Orthodox, Evangelical or Protestant) will be invited, as well as psychologists and people of culture.The event will open with a preview screening of the latest film signed by Wim Wenders, Perfect Days - winner of the Ecumenical Jury Prize at Cannes 2023. The screening will be followed by a dialogue with the Roman Catholic priest Francisc Dobos, according to the press release.The first edition of the festival's programme is made up of films that touch the spiritual dimension of existence and illustrate human complexity, describe serious social realities, reveal the lights and shadows of family and friendship relationships, discover the worries and concerns of children in the world of adults or articulate the struggle for freedom and human rights.Moviegoers will have the opportunity to watch recent productions such as Liberty, directed by Tudor Giurgiu, awarded at CineFest Miskolc 2023) or Totem, directed by Lila Aviles, awarded at Berlin 2023 and The Old Oak, directed by Ken Loach, mention at Cannes 2023, but also films that were appreciated by the ecumenical juries in the past years: Capernaum, directed by Nadine Labaki, awarded at Cannes 2016 and God Exists and His Name Is Petrunija, directed by Teona Strugar Mitevska, awarded at Berlin ,
