FinMin: IFC partners reaffirmed commitment to support strategic projects in areas that can transform Romanian economy

 The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting strategic projects in Romania in sectors with transformative potential for the economy, such as clean energy and competitive industry, including through public-private partnerships (PPPs), announced Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare.Currently in Washington, where he is attending the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings, the minister of Finance had discussions with representatives from both the World Bank and the IFC.'The meeting with Makhtar Diop, IFC's Managing Director, focused on deepening cooperation on strategic investments in Romania. The IFC already holds a significant portfolio of around 2 billion USD and aims to double this in the coming years. Our IFC partners expressed confidence in Romania's potential and reaffirmed their commitment to support strategic projects in areas that can transform the Romanian economy: clean energy, competitive industry and sustainable finance, including through public-private partnerships,' Nazare wrote on Thursday on his Facebook page.In discussions with Antonella Bassani, World Bank Vice President of the Europe and Central Asia Region, the Finance minister addressed boosting productivity and strengthening the competitiveness of Romania's economy.'Romania is one of the high-potential economies in the region, and the World Bank's support is essential for implementing reforms related to modernising the administration, digitalisation and infrastructure development. The discussions taking place these days in the United States strengthen Romania's position as a reliable partner within the World Bank Group, which includes both institutions, and open new doors for foreign investment into Romania,' underscored Nazare.The Finance minister is leading the ministry delegation to the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, held in Washington DC, United States, from 14 to 18 October 2025.According to a recent press release from the Ministry of Finance, the minister's agenda for Thursday, 16 October, includes meetings with representatives from the international rating agencies Fitch, Moody's and S&P; a meeting with Alfred Kammer, Director of the European Department at the International Monetary Fund, and Jeroen Clicq, IMF Executive Director; as well as meetings with business representatives, including from the US Chamber of Commerce, as well as discussions with major investors and investment groups (PIMCO, BNPP, ING, Morgan Stanley, Barclays), the ministry said.On Friday, 17 October, Nazare will attend the Plenary Session of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, the session where finance ministers and central bank governors of the two institutions convene to adopt key decisions and outline priorities for the period ahead.On Saturday, 18 October, the Finance minister will participate in the IMF's presentation on regional economic outlooks.
