First Lady Carmen Iohannis subpoenaed to General Prosecutor’s Office on December 10

November 27, 2018

President Klaus Iohannis’s wife Carmen Iohannis was subpoenaed to the General Prosecutor’s Office, on December 10, in order to be heard in the case opened following a denouncement related to certain amounts of money obtained from renting a building, representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office told Agerpres on Monday. Carmen Iohannis had been subpoenaed before to the General Prosecutor’s Office on November 15, but she told the prosecutors at the time that she cannot show up, because she was accompanying the President on a visit to the UK. The case was opened after SC Jurindex Medial SRL, the company that manages the Website Lumeajustitiei.ro, represented by the journalist Razvan Savaliuc, has filed a denouncement against President Klaus Iohannis and his wife, Carmen Iohannis, as well as against notary Radu Gabriel Bucsa, denounced for committing several offenses, among which abuse of office, intellectual forgery, money laundering and creating an organised criminal group. Initially, the denouncement was recorded in May 2018 by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA), later sent to the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Court of Appeals of Alba Iulia and then to the General Prosecutor’s Office. In the denouncement submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office it is said that the Iohannis family refused to returned to the state the amount of 320,000 euro, which were money that were allegedly illegally gained from renting a house in Sibiu. In November 2015, the Brasov Court of Appeals ruled a final decision to cancel the sale-purchase contract of a real estate held in Sibiu by Klaus and Carmen Iohannis.
