Foreign Affairs Minister Emil Hurezeanu had a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on Tuesday, in Brussels, during which he emphasized the importance of a robust allied presence on the Eastern Flank and the need to combat disinformation."A good first meeting between Foreign Affairs Minister Emil Hurezeanu and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Romania is a strong ally in the Black Sea, contributing to the security of our Alliance. A robust NATO presence on the Eastern Flank is imperative. Romania has been by Ukraine's side from day one [of the war - editor's note] and will play an active role in the future of this country. Strengthening the resilience of our partners, especially the Republic of Moldova, and combating disinformation remain priorities. Romania is aware that the amount of defence spending must be proportionate to the current threats," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) said on the X platform.According to a MAE press release, the agenda of the talks included security developments on the Eastern Flank, with a focus on the Black Sea region, and the further strengthening of Allied deterrence and defence.Russia's malignant actions against the Allies and some partners and their impact on Euro-Atlantic security were addressed."Disinformation activities are part of a well-known toolbox, to which the Allies and the Alliance must respond in a coordinated manner by strengthening resilience," the Romanian ministry showed.Romania's commitment to multidimensional support for Ukraine was reiterated, context in which minister Emil Hurezeanu expressed his interest for Romania to actively participate in the discussions on Ukraine's future.The two officials also discussed the need to strengthen NATO's support for partners, in particular the Republic of Moldova, which is constantly exposed to Russia's destabilizing actions.Minister Hurezeanu emphasized Romania's contribution to Euro-Atlantic security and the deep commitment of the Romanian society to democratic values.
