Foreign direct investment, down 5.74pct in first nine months of 2018

Foreign direct investment dropped 5.74 percent in the first nine months of this year compared to the similar period of 2017, to 3.517 billion euro, according to data released by the National Bank of Romania (BNR) on Tuesday. “The direct investment of non-residents in Romania totaled 3.517 billion euro (as compared to 3.731 billion euro between January and September 2017), of which equity capital (including the estimated reinvested earnings) amounted to 3.152 billion euro, and intra-group loans registered the net value of 365 million euro,” reads the BNR press release. The number of newly established foreign capital companies dropped 4.5 percent in the first eight months of this year, Y-o-Y, to 4,195 units, according to data with the National Companies Registry Office (ONRC). The 4,195 newly established companies had a subscribed capital of more than 40.6 million US dollars, up 15.6 percent as compared to January-September 2017.
