Foreign direct investment down to 6.3 billion EUR between January and November 2023

Direct investments by non-residents in Romania fell to EUR 6.313 billion in the first 11 months of 2023, from EUR 9.547 billion in the period January-November 2022, according to data from the National Bank of Romania (BNR) published on Friday."Non-residents' direct investments in Romania totalled EUR 6,313 million (compared to EUR 9,547 million in the period January - November 2022), of which equity holdings (including estimated net reinvested earnings) totalled a net value of EUR 5,996 million and intra-group loans recorded a net value of EUR 317 million," the BNR release said.The number of newly established foreign-owned companies in Romania decreased by 6.2% in the first 11 months of this year compared to the same period in 2022, to 6,447 units, according to data centralized by the National Trade Register Office (ONRC).The 6,447 new companies had a total subscribed share capital of USD123.435 million, up 3.24 times compared to the subscribed capital of companies registered between January and November 2022 of USD 38,105 million.At the end of November 2023, there were 250,663 companies in Romania with foreign participation in the share capital. The value of the subscribed capital stood at almost USD 69.289 billion. The largest number of companies with foreign participation was with investors from Italy, namely 52,677 (subscribed capital of USD 3.21 billion), but the highest value of share capital belonged to Dutch companies, namely USD 12.907 billion, in 6,073 companies.
