Foreign direct investments up by 34.14% four months into 2024

Direct investments by non-residents in Romania amounted to 3.230 billion euros in the first four months of this year, up 34.14% compared to 2.408 billion euros in the similar period of 2023, according to data published on Thursday by the National Bank of Romania (BNR)."Equity investments (including estimated reinvested profit) amounted to a net value of EUR 3.014 billion, and intra-group loans recorded a net value of EUR 216 million," the press release also says.According to the BNR, the current account of the balance of payments registered, between January and April 2024, a deficit of 6.576 billion euros, 26.68% higher compared to that of 5.191 billion euros in the period January - April 2023.According to data centralized by the National Trade Register Office (ONRC), , a number of 2,308 companies with foreign capital were established in Romania in the first four months of 2024, up by 0.9% compared to the similar period of 2023.The 2,308 new companies had a total subscribed capital of more than 12.4 million dollars, an increase of 46.4% compared to the subscribed capital of companies registered in January - April 2023, of 8.47 million dollars.At the end of April 2024, there were 253,534 companies with foreign participation in the share capital in Romania. The value of the subscribed capital was over 70.58 billion dollars.The largest number of companies with foreign participation was with investors from Italy, respectively 53,077 (subscribed capital of approximately 3.37 billion dollars), but the highest value of the share capital belongs to Dutch companies, respectively 13.063 billion dollars, in 6,146 of companies.
