Foreign minister reiterates in Rome development of sustainable European-level response capacity

 Minister of Foreign Affairs Oana Toiu and High Representative of Romania for the Reconstruction of Ukraine Mihai Jurca held a meeting on Thursday with European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius, on the margins of the Ukraine Recovery Conference taking place in Rome, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) announced.According to the source, the discussions focused on Romania's strategic role in the region and the contribution that the Romanian defence industry can make to strengthening European security, including through the development of production and delivery capacities for the joint procurement of military equipment by EU member states.Minister Toiu presented Romania's needs and priorities in the context of the upcoming Omnibus legislation, underlining the shared commitment to continuing technical dialogue, simplifying joint procurement procedures, and facilitating access to EU funds dedicated to the development of the defence industry.During the meeting, Mihai Jurca also highlighted the key role of the SAFE European instrument, worth EUR 150 billion, in reinforcing European industrial cooperation in the defence area.The Romanian officials reiterated support for joint production initiatives, integrated procurement, and the development of a sustainable European-level response capacity, in close collaboration with partners.Minister Toiu reaffirmed Romania's commitment to actively contributing to strengthening European security, as well as to developing an innovative, interconnected, and resilient defence industry, capable of supporting both national defence and that of its allies.She also emphasised Romania's interest in deepening cooperation in the area of security and defence, as well as with other like-minded partners, and welcomed the most recent Security and Defence Partnerships signed with valuable EU partners - with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, agreed on 19 May, and with Canada, on 23 June.
