ForMin Hurezeanu: Romania condemns repeated violations of its airspace by Russia

March 24, 2025

Romania condemns the repeated violations of its airspace by Russia, in the context of the war near the border, Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu said on Monday. He sent a video message to the meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in consolidated format, convened by Finland, the OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office (CIO), to mark three years since the start of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine."The humanitarian situation in Ukraine has gradually deteriorated. The continuous and deliberate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, especially critical infrastructure of the Russian Federation, including on the ports on the Danube, close to the Ukrainian border with Romania, are horrific war crimes and must stop immediately. In this context, we condemn the repeated violations of Romania's airspace. Nobody wanted this war, only the Russian leaders. Russia has launched a war of aggression against Ukraine, a sovereign, free and independent state that has the intrinsic right to self-determination in terms of its foreign policy and its own security, in accordance with international law," the head of Romanian diplomacy stated.Minister Hurezeanu condemned the illegal aggression against Ukraine, reiterating his call on the Russian Federation to immediately and unconditionally end the war and to withdraw its military forces and equipment from the entire territory of Ukraine, within its internationally recognized borders. He pleaded for a just and equitable peace, through negotiations with Ukraine."Romania joins all efforts of the international community to this end, including in the OSCE," he said.Hurezeanu reiterated his condemnation in the strongest terms of the atrocities committed by the Russian armed forces in Ukraine and stressed the need to hold accountable those guilty of violations of international law, some of which are considered war crimes and crimes against humanity.
