March 19, 2025

There is still no confirmed intention that the spheres of influence at the global level can be changed or redistributed, Minister of Foreign Affairs Emil Hurezeanu declared on Thursday. He was asked by journalists, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' seat, regarding various scenarios, in the context of the high-level meeting between the U.S. and the Russian Federation, in Riyadh. As to the possible risk that Romania could enter Russia's sphere of influence, the minister of Foreign Affairs replied: "No. We are members of the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union - these are the guarantees already in place, recorded in the bilateral Strategic Partnership [with the U.S.] and as NATO allies".Emil Hurezeanu added that "there is no reason whatsoever" for the withdrawal of American troops from Eastern Europe."We do not have a position of a non-existent change. There is still no confirmed intention that the spheres of influence can be changed or redistributed. There is none," the minister pointed out.The head of Romanian diplomacy stated that he did not have concrete data related to the subject of these high-level discussions."I do not have these data now. We do not have conclusions yet and we do not have any confirmations," he pointed out.Hurezeanu pleaded for Romania's involvement in the process of negotiations for peace in Ukraine."Romania will have to do everything it has to do - enter into what we have been asking for from the beginning - the negotiation process," the Romanian foreign minister stated.
