ForMin Odobescu: Ukrainian Summit in Bucharest, reconfirmation of strong ties between the two peoples

May 13, 2024

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminita Odobescu, emphasized, on Friday, that the Summit of the Leaders of the World Congress of Ukrainians taking place in Bucharest represents a reconfirmation of the "strong" ties between the Romanian and Ukrainian people, Romania being among " the most active" supporters of Ukraine, both bilaterally and in all international formats of dialogue and cooperation."I express my admiration for the heroic fight and sacrifice of the Ukrainian people, the just fight against Russian aggression, the struggle to defend the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. It must be repeated every time we have the opportunity - the war of aggression launched by Russia against Ukraine represents a violation of all norms of international law. It is all the more serious since the aggressor, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, had the fundamental responsibility to protect, not to violate these norms. On the other hand, Ukraine fully respects international law and the UN Charter, resisting Russian aggression. Ukraine is exercising its legitimate right to defend itself. Respecting international law is only one of the stakes of Ukrainian resistance," Odobescu said.Odobescu recalled that she appealed to all meetings of the Council of Foreign Affairs for the continuation of political and practical support in all fields for Ukraine. The Summit of the Leaders of the World Congress of Ukrainians, an event organized by the Union of Ukrainians in Romania, in partnership with the World Congress of Ukrainians, is taking place in Bucharest, at the Palace of the Parliament, from April 12 to 15.
