ForMin Toiu discusses with Ukrainian counterpart on energy sector and Russian drones in national airspace

The energy sector and Russian drones in national airspace were on the agenda of the telephone conversation between the Romanian and Ukrainian interim Foreign Ministers, Oana Toiu and Andrii Sybiha.''Neighbors help each other whenever possible, and this was the subject of the phone conversation I had with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha,'' Toiu wrote on X ob Friday.she said she ''presented the implications of the extremely low level of the Danube on our nuclear energy production and we discussed ways to maintain energy supplies from Ukraine, based on the production capacity of Ukrainian nuclear power plants and the maintenance schedule.''''The conversation fits into the line of the very good dialogue between our respective ministries (Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and Deputy Prime Minister Denys shmyhal). Romania has decided today to declare a state of emergency on the energy market, as a result of the severe drought. These circumstances have necessitated the preventive shutdown of one of the reactors at the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant, and during peak hours we will also rely on energy produced in Ukraine,'' Oana Toiu detailed.The foreign minister mentions that ''within the framework of our strategic partnership, in May, our presidents agreed to build a 400 kV high-voltage power line between our countries, and today's situation represents yet another example of how the interconnection of energy networks brings benefits to Romania, Ukraine, and the European Union's energy market, especially since energy is, without a doubt, a vital element for our economies and directly influences the cost and quality of life of citizens.''Oana Toiu also says she addressed the situation created by the war in the neighboring country.''During the conversation, I expressed my solidarity and compassion following another night of barbaric Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities, resulting in numerous civilian casualties and entire families killed. I received an update on the security situation, as well as information about Ukraine's needs on the front line and in view of the coming winter. We had an exchange of views on security developments in the Black sea, including regarding the Russian drone incursion into Romania's airspace and the downing of three Russian UAVs by the Romanian Air Force in the past week,'' she added.The acting foreign minister pointed out that ''the sustained attacks on civilian vessels in the Black sea have a profound impact on navigation safety and on the conduct of legitimate economic activities, such as the Maritime Corridor to the ports of Greater Odesa and the CPC terminal, which ensures Romania's supply of crude oil.''
