Gas production down almost 2pct, imports up 23pct, two months into 2025

 Romania's usable natural gas production in the first two months of 2025 was standing at 1.26 million tons of oil equivalent (toe), down 23,800 toe year-on-year, at minus 1.9%, according to data with the National Institute of Statistics (INS).On the other hand, in the first two months of this year, natural gas imports increased by 23% (plus 255,200 toe) year-on-year, to 462,700 toe.According to estimates of the country's by the National Board for Economic Strategy and Forecast (CNSP), natural gas production is expected to grow by 2027 at an average annual rate of 1.7%. Thus, in the latest Energy Balance Forecast, a natural gas production of 7.79 million toe (plus 1.5%) was estimated for 2025, a natural gas production of 7.907 million toe (plus 1.5%) for 2026 and a natural gas production of 8.176 million toe (plus 3.4%) for 2027.As for imports, a downward trend is expected at a more pronounced pace by 2027 (minus 6%), in line with the advance of production, through the commissioning of new capacities, and also taking into account transit to foreign markets continuing.CNSP is expecting 2025 natural gas imports of 2.211 million toe (-7.6%), 2026 imports of 2.150 million toe (-2.7%) and for 2027 imports of 2.022 million toe (-6%).
