The Government approved on Thursday a decision on the allocation of the funds granted to Romania under the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) Instrument.The funds, totalling more than 16.6 billion euros, are being allocated to the institutions that will implement the projects included in the European defence industry investment plan, according to a Government press release.The Ministry of National Defence is receiving an allocation of around 9.7 billion euros, the Ministry of Internal Affairs more than 2.1 billion euros, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure 4.2 billion euros, the Romanian Intelligence Service around 501 million euros, the Special Telecommunications Service more than 38.5 million euros, the Protection and Guard Service more than 68.1 million euros, the Foreign Intelligence Service around 32.3 million euros and the National Prison Administration 33.2 million euros.The allocation of the funds was made in accordance with the European defence industry investment plan and the funds may be used exclusively to implement the proposed projects or make the planned acquisitions, the release reads.The plan includes 35 projects, of which 75% concern the procurement of military equipment, public order and civil protection equipment, while 25% concern nationally significant road transport infrastructure.Romania received its first payment of 2.5 billion euros on Wednesday under the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) defence instrument, representing 15% of its total allocation of 16.7 billion euros, according to the European Commission.
