The government approved on Wednesday a bill ratifying a defence cooperation agreement between the government of Romania and the government of Korea signed in Seoul in April 2024.According to the government, the draft agreement submitted for approval and ratification by the bill aims to create an overall legal framework to strengthen defence cooperation between the two countries in accordance with national legislation and international obligations, based on the principles of equality, reciprocity and mutual interest.The agreement takes the form of an international governmental treaty and provides for aspects related to the areas and forms of cooperation, the protection of classified information, financial and legal aspects, dispute resolution.Romania and Korea established diplomatic ties in 1990, and the level of bilateral relations is one of strategic partnership, with Korea being Romania's first strategic partner in Asia.The bill approved by the government is to be submitted to Parliament for further debate and approval.
