Gov't to give up to RON 10,000 to families affected by floods

October 15, 2024

The government will allocate emergency aid of up to 10,000 RON to the families affected by the floods in Galati county, prime minister Marcel Ciolacu informs on Monday, at the beginning of the extraordinary session of the Executive, where the government will take support measures for the victims of the floods."As we promised the families affected by the floods in Galati the other day, we are allocating the first amounts today to compensate part of the damage they suffered. Each affected family will receive emergency aid from the Government of a maximum of 10,000 RON. In the case of those families who have lost a loved one, we approve an additional aid of 10,000 RON. The total amount of this first aid is 100 million RON," informs the prime minister. In the morning, Ciolacu had announced that the Government is going to meet in a meeting to approve additional support measures for the victims of the flood-affected areas."I discussed with the deputy prime minister (...) to quickly come up with certain aids that exceed the state reserves, and it is possible to hold a Government meeting today", he stated. The agenda of Monday's Government meeting included two draft decisions. The first aims to grant emergency aid to combat the effects of the special meteorological phenomena produced these days, as well as to supplement the budget of the Ministry of Labour and Social Solidarity from the budgetary reserve fund available to the Government. The second project refers to the accumulation of emergency stocks in the state reserve for the continuation of school activities in the localities affected by extreme weather phenomena.    Romania's National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA) issued on Monday a Code Red flash flood advisory effective until noon on Tuesday on two rivers in the counties of Galati and Vaslui.According to the hydrologists, between September 16, 18:00 - September 17, 12:00, major flashes down the slopes, torrents and streams, rapid water build-ups on small rivers with possible local flooding effects and significant flow increases past the danger levels are likely on the riversbasins of Barlad - left tributaries of the downstream sector of S.
