The US-based Greenbrier company, which owns three wagon factories in Romania, announced that it is closing its production unit in Arad. “Due to the difficult and accelerating challenges in the local market, Greenbrier Romania intends to cease its production operations, carried out at the Arad factory. This decision was influenced by several factors, including increasing pressures from the industry, increasing operational costs compared to other factories, but also logistical constraints related to the age of the unit and the urban environment,“ the company announced in a press release. “Greenbrier Romania will continue to consolidate its production operations at the Caracal and Drobeta Turnu Severin factories. This strategic realignment reinforces Greenbrier’s long-term commitment to the railcar production line in Romania. The company intends to continue investing in these work units to support their long-term development. Existing orders will be fulfilled from these locations, and procurement and logistics strategies will be adjusted according to needs,” the company’s announcement continues. The company also has a production unit in Caracal, Olt County and Drobeta-Turnu-Severin, Mehedinti County. In addition to the factories in Romania, Greenbrier Europe also owns three factories in Poland and one in Turkey. Greenbrier Companies is an American publicly traded transportation manufacturing corporation headquartered in Lake Oswego, Oregon, United States. The company acquired 75% of the shares of Astra Rail Industries, which operated the Arad railcar factory, for 60 million euros.
