Gross income in October 2024 for full-time employees - RON 8,374

The gross income of employees who worked full-time under a labour contract and were paid for the entire month of October 2024 was RON 8,374, more than a quarter above the basic gross salary of RON 6,553, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Friday.Around 40% of these employees earned gross incomes between RON 5,001 and RON 10,000. On average, the gross income of female employees was RON 491 lower than that of male employees. The highest gross incomes were recorded among employees aged 30-44.According to the official statistics, the total number of employees who worked full-time under a labour contract and were paid for the entire month of October 2024 was 4.615 million, of which 47% were women.By economic activity, the majority of employees, both men and women, worked in manufacturing (19.6%) and wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (16.6%).Male employees also had significant shares in construction (14.5% of male employees) and transport and storage (10.9% of male employees).Over three-quarters of employees in health and social work, as well as education, were women.The main occupational groups for male employees were plant and machine operators; assemblers of machinery and equipment (17.8% of male employees), specialists in various fields (16.9%), and skilled workers and similar occupations (16.7%).Female employees were predominantly specialists in various fields (29.6% of female employees) or service workers (20.9%).By age, the largest cohort (79.8% of employees, i.e., 3.682 million) was aged 30-59.The age groups 15-24 and 60+ were almost equally represented (5.8% and 5.9%). In the predominant 30-59 age group, 78.1% of male employees and 81.7% of female employees were included.The average basic gross salary of employees working full-time and paid for the entire month of October 2024 was RON 6,553.Gross income earned based on specific characteristics and/or performance (e.g., project-based) was more than a quarter above the basic gross salary, at RON 8,374.Over one-third of employees earned gross income below RON 5,001 (35.8% of male employees, 34.3% of female employees).INS also noted that roughly a quarter of employees, both men and women, earned gross incomes above RON 10,000.On average, male employees had a basic gross salary of RON 6,575, and their gross income was RON 8,605, exceeding the basic salary by 30.9%.Female employees had an average basic gross salary of RON 6,527, and their gross income was RON 8,114, RON 491 below that of male employees.The highest basic gross salaries and gross incomes were recorded in the information and communication sector (RON 13,311 and RON 15,791, respectively).At the other end, the lowest basic gross salaries and gross incomes were in hotels and restaurants (RON 4,409 and RON 5,022, respectively).Occupational groups with the highest average basic salaries and gross incomes were specialists in various fields (RON 10,128 and RON 12,365) and members of the legislative and executive bodies, senior public administration officials, executives, and senior functionaries (RON 9,857 and RON 12,250).At the lower end were skilled workers in agriculture, forestry, and fishing (RON 4,218) and service workers (RON 4,267). For gross income, the lowest averages were in the same groups, with service workers earning RON 5,196 and skilled workers in agriculture, forestry, and fishing RON 5,211.Basic salaries and gross incomes increase progressively with age until 45. Employees aged 40-44 and 35-39 had the highest average basic salaries (RON 7,215 and RON 7,195) and earned the highest gross incomes (RON 9,165 and RON 9,101).Employees aged 15-19 earned roughly 40% less than those aged 40-44, employees aged 50+ earned slightly below the average for both indicators, and those aged 50-54 and 55-59 earned gross incomes about 30% higher than their basic salaries.
