Groupama continues to gain the preference of Romanians in 2024

June 10, 2025

Groupama, the leader of the insurance market in Romania, continues its development, gaining the preference of Romanians. The total value of gross written premiums by Groupama in 2024 approached 4.4 billion RON, representing a 7% increase compared to the previous year. Excluding mandatory car insurance (RCA), Groupama recorded gross written premiums of nearly 2 billion RON, a 21% increase compared to 2023. The company reported a net profit of 285 million RON and very strong solvency levels: 140% (SCR) and 274% (MCR).   “2024 was a year of very good results for Groupama, especially from two perspectives: the quality of our services and the development of optional insurance lines. These are connected, because development is directly tied to the value we deliver to our clients, partners, and team, and our strategy is built on this principle. I believe in the virtuous circle where happy teams and partners create satisfied clients, and financial results follow as a consequence. This belief also clearly defines our strategic priorities. In addition, we are fortunate to be part of such a unique Group—a mutual insurance group in which the client is also a stakeholder. This explains our focus on quality, partnerships, and the well-being of the communities we are part of, alongside financial indicators that ensure our investment power, development, and sustainability. We are therefore proud and highly motivated for the future, which seems to bring new challenges. Proud, without forgetting that we are on a long journey—earning and maintaining the preference of Romanians is a mission that never ends, and staying grounded is very important to me. That’s where a frequently underestimated risk lies—for both individuals and companies. An insured Romania is a stronger Romania, and at Groupama, we remain a company whose priority is to demonstrate—through quality, respect, investment, innovation, and community involvement—that we deserve the trust and preference of Romanians. That is why we are here—to help as many Romanians as possible live their lives with confidence and optimism, knowing they have a partner by their side they can rely on, ready to ensure continuity when the unexpected occurs,” said Calin Matei, CEO of Groupama.   Groupama is the leader of the insurance market and the second-largest player in the market excluding RCA (mandatory car insurance). In 2024, the company recorded gross written premiums of 2.4 billion RON for the RCA line, while gross written premiums excluding RCA showed significant growth, reaching 1.99 billion RON, up by 344.4 million RON compared to the previous year (a 21% increase), marking the highest growth in the market.   General insurance recorded a total of over 4 billion RON in gross written premiums in 2024, while personal insurance reached 315 million RON.   The CASCO line (comprehensive car insurance) remains one of Groupama’s best-performing business segments, with a 17% increase, reaching approximately 1 billion RON. Strong results were also seen in the Buildings and Property line, which reached 337 million RON, a 14% increase compared to 2023.   Regarding personal insurance, the results confirm a growing interest among Romanians in optional insurance products, with Groupama achieving very good results in life, health, and travel insurance lines.   In 2024, health insurance exceeded 241 million RON, an increase of 79% compared to 2023, while life insurance also grew by 15%, reaching 72 million RON.   Groupama’s success in Romania is also reflected in the quality of interactions with each client, strong partnerships, the well-being and performance of its team, the impact the company has in the community, and, not least, a brand that inspires trust and optimism for the future.   The Groupama brand is among the top recognized and preferred brands by customers, according to the most recent market studies. The company is the only insurer to have received the Superbrand designation at the beginning of 2025—a program that identifies and recognizes brands that excel in quality, innovation, and reputation, following a rigorous and objective selection process.   Groupama also received the TOP Employer certification for the eighth consecutive year.   All quality indicators monitored by the company showed improvements compared to the previous year, in line with its promise to deliver high-quality services at a fair price and to exceed customer expectations in every interaction. Thus, every month in 2024, over 15,000 clients were assisted in overcoming unexpected situations. The customer satisfaction rate in 2024 was 97%, and 92% of clients appreciated the ease of working with Groupama.   For Groupama, performance means more than just financial indicators. That’s why the company has continued to integrate sustainability principles into its business operations, including measuring and reducing its carbon footprint, in addition to a CSR strategy focused on people and community impact.   In 2024, Groupama invested in community-focused projects centered on prevention, addressing real and urgent needs, and also supported the development of Romanian cinema. The year 2024 marked the reopening of Studio Cinema in Timisoara, whose renovation was financially supported by Groupama with approximately 150,000 Euros. The “Lifesavers” program, a national free training program in first aid carried out in partnership with the SMURD Foundation, also continued in 2024. Since its launch, over 10,000 people have participated in more than 370 workshops held in nearly 70 cities across the country.   Groupama redirected 20% of its 2024 profit tax to a number of emblematic health-related causes, with 1 million euros going, for example, toward the complete renovation of the Emergency Surgery and Endoscopy Unit within the Marie Curie Children’s Emergency Hospital.   In 2024, Groupama continued to prioritize innovation, focusing particularly on artificial intelligence and its meaningful integration—either to simplify the team’s work or to enhance the quality of services. Among the first projects launched was a solution that simplifies and optimizes customers’ phone interactions with Groupama. Currently, after multiple machine learning-based initiatives, the company has launched a comprehensive program focused on generative AI, developed in partnership with Google.   At the Group level, Groupama recorded in 2024 a total value of gross written premiums of 18.5 billion Euros and a net profit of 961 million euros.
