About half of the people from the rural area, aged between 18 and 60 declared they do not work, 29% of them say they have no stable income and 4% are registered as unemployed, according to a report of World Vision Romania foundation. The “Report on entrepreneurship and occupancy in rural areas”launched by World Vision Romania foundation, says that 46.2% of people aged between 18 and 60 from the rural area declare they have no jobs. Of them, 29% say they stay at home and have no stable income and only 4% declare they are registered as unemployed. “In the meantime, 5% of the rural population say that they or someone from their household has a personal business and 22% want to start their own firm in the next two years, most of them in the farming field (57%), having European grants (40%) and their own savings or loans from family or friends (40%) as financing sources”, the report reads. The study, made over October-December 2015 in collaboration with the Romanian Institute for Evaluation and Strategy, was meant to identify the main problems and opportunities concerning occupancy and entrepreneurship in rural areas, being applied to two representative samples at population level. The report was made based on results obtained in the project “Made in rural”, which offered support to people from less favored categories in 40 rural communities in Alba, Bistgrita Nasaud, Brasov, Constanta, Cluj, Dolj, Ialomita, Ilfov, Valcea and Vaslui counties. Within the project, over 2,100 people from the rural area benefited from integrated occupation services and over 1,700 of them participated in training courses to learn new trades and over 350 found jobs. 2,250,000 lei were granted as prizes to 188 people to initiate small businesses as a direct support measure for the economic development of communities in which they live with their families.
