Healthcare: Romania's national cardiovascular, cerebrovascular health strategy put up for public debate

The Ministry of Health on Friday put up for public consultation a draft government decision approving Romania's National Strategy for Combatting Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases 2024-2030.According to the document's substantiation note, the strategy emphasises a deep understanding of the health problems of the population and barriers to access healthcare services related to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular pathologies, continuing with solutions for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and recovery of these diseases in order to secure optimal care pathways and equitable access to medical services, in compliance with the recommendations of international guidelines.Priority is attached to the development of a healthcare information system, research programmes and innovation initiatives in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, all of which are evaluated and monitored through reliable and transparent indicators."The National Strategy for Combating Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases 2024-2030 aims to define and implement evidence-based healthcare policies that guide the use of health resources, and also of pathologies with a significant burden on Romania's healthcare system, by addressing essential issues at national level: the epidemiological and social reality of these diseases at national level; the safest, most efficient, effective and cost-effective responses to reduce the burden; clinical tools needed by healthcare professionals to improve healthcare quality, along with public policies needed to improve public health," reads the explanatory note.The general objectives of the strategy are: developing an integrated healthcare information system for the prevention and care of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases; securing an integrated framework for the prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases; treating of cardiovascular diseases; treating cerebrovascular diseases; developing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular rehabilitation in Romania; diagnosing and treating rare cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases; common measures for cardiology and neurology regarding the development of specialist human resources for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases; promoting research, development and innovation (RDI) activities in the area of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases in Romania, through grants and national and/or international public-private partnerships.
