Hidroelectrica: Investment of over 200 mln. euro for refurbishment of HPP Vidraru

The contract for upgrading Vidraru Hydropower Plant, a 200 million euro investment, was signed on Tuesday in Arges county, in the presence of premier Marcel Ciolacu and energy minister Sebastian Burduja.   The contract signing ceremony was attended by Marija Kapitanovic, the Croatian ambassador to Bucharest, since a Croatian company will be involved in the upgrading process.   “It is an important event for the Romanian energy sector and for bilateral relations between Romania and Croatia. Koncar, the company involved in the project, represents excellency in the energy sector,”said the ambassador.   The association between Electromontaj (association leader), Koncar engineering Co.Ltd for Production and Services and Butan Group won the contract for the upgrading of Vidraru Hydropower Plant, worth 188.382 million euros, Hidroelectrica informed on July 1st.   According to the source, AHE Vidraru is one of the most representative hydropower objectives in Romania and the power plant, with an installed power of 220 MW,is playing an important role for the National Power Grid.   Vidraru Hydropower Plant, commissioned in 1966, uses the waters of Arges river potential on a sector 28 km long, between Cumpana and Oiesti, turning to account a water fall of 324 m. The lake has a volume of 465 million cu.m., of which 320 million cu.m represent useful volume.   Vidraru Dam was, when inaugurated, the fifth in Europe and 9th in the world among similar buildings. It ensures an annual electric energy output of 400 Gwh.   Hidroelectrica is the largest green energy producer in Romania amd supplies technologicalservices for the National Power Grid. The company operates 187 power plants with a capacity of 6.3 GW. Moreover, it has a wind park at Crucea, with an installed power of 108 MW and a share of 13.09% in the supply market.
