Infrastructure: CNAIR: In 2026, target is 250 new kilometers of new highways and expressways

January 14, 2026

The target of the National Road Infrastructure Management Company (CNAIR) for 2026 is to put into use 250 kilometers of new highways and expressways, with another 125 kilometers schedule250 kilometers of new highways and expressways, with another 125 kilometers scheduled on the Moldovan Highway, which will allow traffic on the highway up to Pascani, according to General Director Cristian Pistol.According to him, if 2025 is "a historic year for road infrastructure", given that 146 kilometers of highway and expressway were opened to traffic, next year is even more ambitious, with the target of 250 new kilometers."Next year is even more ambitious: in 2026 the target is 250 new kilometers. A7 (Moldovian Motorway): another 125 km will be ready, allowing traffic on the highway up to Pascani. The completion of the northern ring of the A0 will ensure an uninterrupted connection of 578 km between Pascani and Constanta (A7-A3-A0-A2). Premiere on the A1 Sibiu-Pitesti: we open section 4 (Curtea de Arges-Tigveni) and put the Momaia Tunnel into traffic, the first road tunnel in Romania dug using the Austrian method. Margina-Holdea sector (A1): we aim to complete the 9.13 km, including the tunnels. However, this opening is conditioned by the success of the complex tests for the safety and monitoring equipment. Transylvania Motorway (A3): we open another 68 km. We will have "200 km of highway between Targu Mures and the Hungarian border (Bors). The Danube closer: we are putting into circulation the DEx Braila - Galati (10.76 km) in the first half of the year, maximizing the utility of the Braila Suspension Bridge," Pistol said on Wednesday in a post on his Facebook page. The head of CNAIR stated that currently 654 km of high-speed road are currently under construction (design and execution), and 374 km are in the tender phase or in the process of signing contracts."We will continue until all of Romania's historical regions are connected! This is our chance to join the top performing European economies," he noted.Regarding the year that is just ending, Cristian Pistol emphasized that 2025 is "the year in which we united several important regions of Romania through high-speed roads.""We are ending a historic year for road infrastructure. The results of 2025 are not just numbers in reports, but hours gained by Romanians in traffic and historical regions that, finally, are reached through high-speed roads! In 2025, we reached the milestone of 1,418 kilometers of high-speed roads! This year, we opened traffic on another 146 km of highway and expressway. The main results that changed the map of the country: The unification of Moldavia with Muntenia - By opening another 95 km of A7, we now travel from Bucharest to Adjud (250 km) only on the highway (A3 and A7); Oltenia connected to Dobrogea - The DEx 12 connection with A1 allows traffic from Craiova to Constanta (465 km) on a high-speed road; Arges on the big map - The completion of section 5 of A1 (Sibiu - Pitesti) created an uninterrupted corridor from Curtea de Arges to Constanta (395 km); Bucharest is decongested through A0 - We opened the entire southern semi-ring of A0 (51 km), ensuring the strategic connection between A1 and A2 on the IV Pan-European Corridor; Fluidizing traffic in Cluj - the completion of the A3 - DN1 (DEx4) connection saves tens of minutes for those who were transiting Turda," he mentioned.
