Infrastructure : EUR 18 mln-plus contract for design of new Otopeni Airport terminal signed

The Bucharest National Airports Corporation (CNAB) has signed the contract for the design of the new terminal at "Henri Coanda" International Airport and its associated airside and landside infrastructure, a project valued at approximately EUR 18.4 million.According to the airport operator, the construction of the new terminal will take three and a half years, while the design phase will last up to two years.The contract was awarded to the consortium formed by Leviatan Design (leader) and Ubitech Constructii, with subcontractors and third-party contributors including Petrodesign, Pintilie Partners Architecture Engineering, Instal Data Proiect, Start SRL, Triptic Architecture & Engineering, Vital Proiect, EPC - Environmental Consultancy, Raluca Serban Environmental Consultancy, and Profesional Construct Proiectare.The main objective of the contract is the design of a new passenger terminal with a surface area of roughly 176,000 square metres, sized for a forecast traffic of around 30 million passengers per year by 2040. Peak-hour flows could reach 6,500 passengers per hour.The facilities will match those of major European airports: minimum 48 new aircraft parking stands; minimum 20 boarding bridges; modern baggage-handling systems for arrivals and departures; upgraded security-screening equipment; next-generation passenger information and intuitive signage systems; ambient lighting, optimised acoustics and efficient climate control; airline protocol lounges; expanded retail and food-and-beverage areas designed to meet IATA Optimum Level of Service.The terminal will serve both legacy carriers and low-cost operators, with dedicated boarding/deboarding zones for the latter.Aircraft will benefit from new, modern taxiways built on a redesigned airport infrastructure.The project also includes multimodal connectivity: road and rail links, new public-transport, coach and taxi stations, and a complex network of access roads in both landside and airside areas. Road connections between the existing terminal and the future one will include new roads and underground passages.The contract covers 10.5 years as follows: 2 years for design, 3.5 years for technical assistance during construction, and 5 years for technical assistance during the warranty period.
