Infrastructure : Starting September 4, Romanians will be able to fly directly to China three times a week

September 7, 2026

Starting September 4, Romanians will be able to travel directly to the People's Republic of China, following the official launch of the air route between Beijing and Bucharest operated by Air China, with a frequency of three flights per week."The Embassy of Romania in the People's Republic of China marked a milestone in bilateral relations between Romania and the People's Republic of China by hosting a ceremony dedicated to the resumption of direct flights between Beijing and Bucharest, starting September 4 of this year. The new round-trip air route operated by Air China?covering the Beijing (PEK) - Bucharest (OTP) - Zagreb (ZAG) itinerary?marks a new stage in the development of connectivity and cooperation between our countries, helping to position Bucharest as a hub with increasingly strong links to major economic, cultural, and political centers in China and Asia," reads a statement sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday.According to the source, the resumption of direct flights reflects the shared commitment and effective cooperation in promoting and facilitating bilateral contacts, particularly in areas such as tourism, economic cooperation, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges. The services will operate on a weekly basis?Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays?providing a fast and efficient connection that will help optimize transport flows by eliminating stopovers and reducing travel times."The resumption of direct flights between Bucharest and Beijing represents a major diplomatic and economic success, aimed at bringing our communities closer together. This connectivity corridor will boost and open up new opportunities for dialogue and cooperation, generating tangible benefits across multiple areas of mutual interest," stated Dan-Horia Maxim, Romania's Ambassador to the People's Republic of China, as cited in the press release. The official inauguration ceremony for the new Beijing-Bucharest-Zagreb route, hosted by the Embassy of Romania in Beijing in partnership with the Embassy of Croatia and Air China, brought together officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China and other specialized institutions and agencies?such as the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC)?as well as representatives from local and international media outlets, the business community, and the tourism sector. In 1974, TAROM launched a flight on the Bucharest-Beijing route for the first time, inaugurating an air link between the two nations located on different continents.  (Photo:https://www.facebook.com/)
