Infrastructure : Wizz Air reports 13 million passengers flying to and from Romania in 2024

  About 63 million passengers travelled by Wizz Air last year, on 300,000 flights, the highest annual passenger traffic for the company. 13 millions of those passengers travelled to and from Romania, one of the basic markets for the air company. In 2024, Wizz Air launched 94 new routes in its whole network. At the same time, the air company took over the delivery of 34 aircraft, increasing its fleet by 15%.   “Wizz Air ended 2024 by breaking down its own record once more – about 63 million passengers chose to travel with this company on more than 300,000 flights, the highest annual traffic for Wizz. 13 million of those passengers travelled to and from Romania, one of the basic markets for the air company,” Wizz announced.   In 2024, Wizz Air launched 84 new routes in its whole network. At the same time, the air company took over the delivery of 34 aircraft, exceeding its fleet by 15%. Of the 226 Wizz Air aircraft, 146 are new Airbus A320/21neo, “neo” technology ensuring now 65% of Wizz Air operations.   Wizz Air is the main air company in Romania, carrying about 13 million passengers in 2024. The air company operates from six Romanian cities: Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Iasi, Sibiu and Timisoara. Recently, Wizz Air announced it would add the second aircraft to its Craiova base in the summer of 2025, giving the start to routes to Memmingen, Bari, Madrid and Dortmund, that the 20th aircraft would join the Otopeni base, and its second base in Bucharest would be set up at Baneasa-Aurel Vlaicu International Airport, as of April 1, 2025. A new route will connect Cluj Napoca and Castellion in spring. Also, Wizz Air allocated a second aircraft to its Sibiu base and announced six new routes to Vienna, Hamburg, Frankfurt Hahn, Basel, Roma Fiumicino and Madrid. On the overall, Romanian passengers can enjoy low Wizz Air prices on 180 routes to 24 countries.   “In 2025 and beginning of 2026, Wizz Air is expected to get 50 new deliveries of Airbus A321neo and A321XLR. The additional state of the art planes will increase the share of that model in Wizz fleet to 77%, while the air company continues to withdraw aircraft of the A320ceo family, consolidating its operations efficient in point of fuel consumption and sustainable accreditations specific of a market leader,” the company mentioned.   In its whole network, Wizz Air completed 99.5% of its flights scheduled last year, being the third best result of all European air companies and a lot over industry average. The company has significantly improved its operational performance in the local market, completing the same flight percentage in Romania too (99.5%), reaching 100% flights completed in more months in 2024, reducing the number of cancelled flights by 25.8%. Wizz Air also improved in Romania the performance of flights taking off in time, the percentage of take offs growing by 11.7%.   “We are happy to conclude the 20th year of operations with record traffic and we are grateful for every passenger who chose to fly Wizz Air in 2024. We have improved our operational performance and experience offered to customers and we will continue to invest massively in these areas of activity. With a market share of 55%, we have been present in Romania for more than 18years and we are proud to have been the best choices for air travel for 98 million passengers since out first flight in 2006,”said Anastasia Novak, corporate communications manager at Wizz Air.   Wizz Air operates a fleet of 226 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft. All Wizz Air flights use Airbus A320 airplanes seating 180, A320neo seating 186, A321 seating 230 and Airbus A321neo seating 239 passengers. Wizz Air is quoted at London Stock Exchange with the symbol “WIZZ”.
